Safe Electricity is the award-winning safety program of the Illinois Electric Council. This multimedia public awareness program is designed to compliment the existing safety education activities of utilities and educators.

Launched in May 2001, Safe Electricity is a unified industry effort. A task force representing electric cooperatives, investor-owned electric utilities and the University of Illinois created the statewide program, leveraging the common interest and strong commitment within the electric industry to promote electrical safety.

This innovative outreach program uses a vast array of multimedia, communication tools, including: a comprehensive web site, www.safeelectricity.org , television and radio public service announcements (PSAs), periodic news releases and articles, billboards, and more.

SafeElectricity.org is a universal resource, a virtual library of safety information for children and adults, farmers, contractors, business people, homeowners, teachers – in essence everyone. The site is continually updated and expanded, and includes interactive safety games and activities for children and additional teacher resources such as lesson plans and classroom experiments, all of which meet National Science Education Standards.

The site includes a Spanish section
